Martin W. Kafafian, managing member and head of the firm’s commercial group, joined Beattie Padovano in 1983. He was elected to partnership in 1986 and became managing member in 2001.
Mr. Kafafian focuses his practice in the areas of commercial real estate, banking and corporate law nationally and internationally.
Among Mr. Kafafian’s clients are Fortune 500 companies, national and regional retailers, real estate developers and supermarkets to whom he has provided counsel in a broad spectrum of matters including financing and leasing of properties, and the structuring and implementation of complex real estate transactions. In addition, he has been involved with the development of major real estate projects and the acquisition and disposition of real estate properties and portfolios. He served as Counsel for the Redevelopment Authority of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey for more than two decades.
He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and has conducted a workshop and led roundtables at its law conferences. Mr. Kafafian is a Trustee for the HackensackUMC Foundation and serves as a member of the Quality & Patient Safety Committee of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors. He is a Trustee for the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey and Co-Chair for their Real Property Roundtable Steering Committee. He also previously served as Counsel, Chairman and Vice Chairman to the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey and Trustee of the Foundation for Free Enterprise as well as the Private Enterprise Political Action Committee (PENPAC). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Bergen County Legal Services and the Board of Directors for the Pascack Valley Crime Stoppers.
Mr. Kafafian has held the following positions in the Greater Montvale Business Association: President, Vice President, Secretary, Director, and Chairman of the Guest Speaker Committee.
His dedicated service to the community includes having served as Director of the Northern New Jersey Council for the Boy Scouts of America and acting as a coach, officer and board member of the Woodcliff Lake Youth Athletic Program.
Mr. Kafafian's awards and honors for his civic accomplishments include the CIANJ Chairman's Outstanding Leadership Award in 2009 and the Good Scout Award from the Northern New Jersey Council for the Boy Scounts of America in 2005.
Highly regarded for the quality of his legal work as well as his ethics, Mr. Kafafian has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
