Patrick (Pat) Monaghan is a seasoned litigator with more than 40 years of experience.
During the course of his career, Pat has represented corporate and individual clients in a wide spectrum of industries including the entertainment and media business, securities and manufacturing industries as well as multi-national clients in the food business. He is also an experienced intellectual property litigator and in recognition thereof was named by his peers as one of Bergen County’s best attorneys in the field of intellectual property and commercial litigation, having prosecuted and defended a number of precedent setting decisions in both state and federal courts. In 2002 he was attorney of record in Johnson v Benjamin Moore & Co., 347 N.J. Super. 71; 788 A.2d 906 (App. Div. 2002), an important and often-cited case which found for his client Benjamin Moore and delineated and examined the elements of a cause of action in New Jersey for theft of ideas.
Before joining Beattie Padovano in 2010, Pat was the senior and founding partner of Monaghan, Monaghan, Lamb & Marchisio. During the course of his career, he has served on the River Vale Board of Adjustment and, at the request of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, was appointed Receiver of an NASD brokerage firm. He also served as a Corporate Trust Officer of a major Wall Street bank working on bond and debenture issues.
Prior to attending Fordham Law School and receiving his J.D. degree, Pat served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963 as an Air Policeman and after discharge attended and graduated from St. Francis University in the history honors program. Among his many honors and recognitions, he was named Distinguished Alumnus Law by St. Francis University. Most recently, he was chosen as the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the New Jersey Chapter of the Fordham Law Alumni Association.
Pat is a member of the New York Bar Association (Litigation and Business Law Sections) and admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey as well as to the U.S. Supreme Court and numerous other federal courts. He recently participated in the Bergen County Bar Association annual Mock Trial competition as a judge.
