We recently caught up with him to learn more:
Steve, what inspired you to pursue a career as an attorney?
From a young age, I was interested in politics and the law. As a student at Fair Lawn High School, I interned for a local Assemblyman, the late W. Cary Edwards; that experience helped inspire me to enroll in pre-law and political science courses at the University of Pennsylvania. I always had a strong desire to help others accomplish their goals, and as an attorney, I pride myself in doing so in a thorough and efficient manner.
What do you most enjoy about working with your team at Beattie Padovano, LLC?
Our team represents a very wide range of talents and specialties. Not only do my colleagues have a strong knowledge of the law, they have diverse interests outside the workplace too.
We also collaborate well based on individual strengths, and when needs arise, we each do our part to offer support to one another.
What types of cases are especially meaningful or rewarding for you, and why?
After one closing, I learned from the seller’s attorney that he chose my client over other comparable offers because he felt confident that he could work with me well and efficiently close the transaction. It was rewarding to be reminded that my work could lead to “win-win” situations for everyone involved, which is very rewarding.
What is your favorite part about working in Northern New Jersey?
I grew up in Northern New Jersey and appreciate that I can provide legal services to individuals with whom I have developed relationships for many years.
Please share a fun fact about yourself!
I am honored to have judged over 3,200 professional boxing matches and to have been the rules expert for HBO Boxing and an unofficial boxing judge for HBO Boxing after Dark. It was also a privilege to be inducted in the Atlantic City, New Jersey and New York Boxing Halls of Fame and to have my name included on the ballot for the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
What advice would you give to an aspiring lawyer?
It is important to develop a specialty so that you can be the “go-to” person in that area. Also, remember that your work will be all about assisting others, and you can make it an incredibly fulfilling career path.
